The hunting of migrating birds in northern Iran dates back to about century ago.
Traditional techniques of hunting did not seriously threaten the existence of these bird colonies however, in recent decades, the emergence of new hunting techniques has created great competition among the hunters in catching various bird species, causing heavy massacres of migrating birds. This is while every group blames the other for the mass slaughtering.
This mass killings has in turn created a huge bird trading mafia. The unity among hunting groups creates a situation that makes the government and environmentalists unable to fight with them.
